Hi I'm renting a room in an older three bedroom house. The home does not have any smoke alarms installed. Im wondering if anyone knows if that is against the law...
Why don't you suggest that they be installed before calling the FD? If the landlord still isn't interested you could hint that it is the law. If it still doesn't sink in and you don't want any hard feelings you could get some yourself.
As far as a fine, I don't know. I'm guessing...
Did you know you're supposed to change your smoke detector every 10 years? Find out why.
VARIOUS DIFFERENT BRANDS AND TYPES OF RESIDENTIAL SMOKE DETECTORS FROM THE 1970'S TO PRESENT.
Do you have smoke detectors in your house or apartment and are you sure the batteries are working? Just checking since everyone is suppose to check their batteries twice a year when we change the time on the clocks.
Thank you for the message to check our smoke detectors batteries...I know mine are working without checking it because most of the time when I'm cooking in my apartment I set it off somehow..lol...hope your's are working!

carbon monoxide how does this happend? | CarbonMonoxide and Smoke ...
Not likely since carbon monoxide is the result of gas not being completely burned. if the pilot is staying lit, then it is most likely ok. if you want to try, clean the white residues from the pilot burner and it should have a nice blue flame, no yellow. i would be looking for something else as the source of CO. maybe even your detector could be too old. try a new co detector and see if you get the same results. co can be deadly but the first signs are headaches and tired feeling. dont play around and get it checked out soon.
How does a Carbon monoxide alarm work? | CarbonMonoxide and Smoke ...
Hello raver82:
CO is deadlier than natural gas; because it is odorless/colorless, people don’t realize that it is present. It will cause death with as little as 30ppm within 30 minutes. CO is extremely hazardous to infants, the elderly and people with breathing disorders or who have difficulty breathing.
The detectors must be powered at all times in order to work properly. The mechanism is able to capture the CO molecules and if a high concentration (over 15 ppm) are detected, it will sound an alarm.
Symptoms of CO poisoning are grogginess, headache, fatigue, sleepiness, irritation of the nasal passages and lungs, and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea. Some complain of experiencing the same effects of alcohol.
