How do I find out what a Smith & Wesson 38 Special CTG pistol serial # 123272 is worth and what yr it was made
It has a 4" barrel and I am sure it is quite old as the Smith & Wesson trade mark emblem on the right side of the gun is nearly worn off. It belonged to an ex police officer volunteer in the Sacramento, Ca area.

Perfect markings. All numbers match. Inside grips marked with Officers name, and CCC & StL Ry. Kankakee, Illinois (just south of Chicago). (Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and St. Louis, later bought by Penn Central). I love guns, so when people that know me are in a bind, they seem to come to me to buy their arms. I have had an old SW laying around for awhile and have decided to let it go. I didn't realize how old it may be as the last dates on the barrel are FEB 8 08 AND SEPT I4 08. I thought it was just in bad shape and maybe a few years old. ( Im tend to buy newer items). I cant figure out the approx year and or value, and people are wanting a price, now that I have mentioned selling it.
