2011 Woodridge Rotary Recycling Update

A steady stream of cars and trucks went in and out of Woodridge’s Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park for four hours on Saturday morning, May 14 to drop things off at the Woodridge Rotary Club’s 2nd Recycling Extravaganza. Once again, many potentially harmful or reusable items were kept out of landfills by this effort. The Woodridge Rotary Club coordinated this second annual event in cooperation with several other Woodridge and Dupage County organizations.

The following items were collected: 53 bicycles, 80 SLA batteries, 68 fire extinguishers, 154 cell phones, 229 ink jet cartridges, 41 American flags, 5 copier toners, 246 pairs of eye glasses, 25 pairs of athletic shoes, 5 pounds of buttons, 89 pounds of keys, 2520 pounds of scrap metal, 4800 pounds of shredded paper, and 35,274 pounds of electronics. (The three largest increases this year over last were in the area of keys, electronics and scrap metal.) Recyclers generously donated $470 toward Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign. The Woodridge Park District sold 54 rain barrels to encourage water recycling.
