Dog picks up £500 cheque for charity
A LOCAL dog played a very special game of fetch when it collected a cheque for £500 for charity.
Emily the Golden Labrador picked up the donation on behalf of Canine Partners at the Merdon Masonic Lodge at Hursley on Wednesday, June 15.
The charity provides dogs for people with disabilities to help them in their daily lives. It costs between £500 and £750 to buy a puppy and the overall cost from the purchase to the dog’s retirement is in the region of £20,000.
Emily has been partner to Andy Fields, a former England Under-18 rugby player of Hyde, Winchester , who was partially paralysed in a motorcycle accident in Singapore and relies on Emily heavily.
Mr Fields, 40, said: “She picks up my keys and my walking stick which I drop on a regular basis. She can open doors, is very good with hats and gloves and socks as well.”
Chris Esplin-Jones, master of the lodge added: “I don’t want to pretend we’ve done something staggering but we were awarded a grant from The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Masonic Grand Charity’s Tom Langton Fund and it’s good for the Lodge that we’ve supported Canine Partners.
