“The number of casualties always rises during the summer months, and we want to ensure NBVC riders are as safe as possible while on the road,” said Larry Jones, Force Protection director. “As summer approaches, more people break out their bikes and many appear to forget the required safety gear, especially as the summer heats up.” The Navy policy regarding motorcycle safety equipment is outlined in OPNAVINST 5100.12H CH-1, dated June 25, 2008.

Among the requirements:

All motorcycles operating on Navy installations will have all original safety equipment as designed by the manufacturer.
