"Gray lenses cause the least color distortion and are a good option for most people," says ophthalmologist Lee Duffner. Polarized lenses offer an added "comfort factor" because they "improve the ability to see in the presence of reflected glare."
Request prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses that provide UVA and UVB protection. But be aware that a product may claim "UV protection" and block only a small percentage of harmful UV rays, says optometrist Sarah Hinkley. She recommends checking with your eye care professional to find out if you are getting the highest level of UV protection available in a particular class of products.
