Creating Business Momentum Starts With A Plan © Chris Bloor
One of the things I love to do with business owners is to create Mind Maps to help them create a plan for business momentum.
I use a neat software from www.MindJet.com
I believe strongly that creating momentum in business doesnt just happen.
Somebody, somewhere has to make it happen. To do that you need a plan. But not just your average dead, dull chloroform on print business plan.
You know the type I mean - something you pay a lawyer or accountant to create for you that you look at once and then just 'put in a drawer' and never read again. I mean the kind of business plan that you can take ownership of - one that is relevant and that you actually enjoy creating and one that you'll refer to often.
Several years ago now my own business coach introduced me to the concept of Mind Mapping.
I honestly don't know of a better planning tool than Mind Mapping.
In the coming weeks, we will be uploading some sample Mind Maps for you to download. We plan to create several 'industry specific' Mind Maps.
If you like - you can suggest some topics you would like to see us cover…
Below are a few videos about Mind Mapping:
FACT: Your advertising only has about 10 seconds to make your prospects:
Stop!
Pay Attention!
And Take Action Now!
Let's Say That You Get Your Prospects Ten-Second Attention – Then What?
Then you need to keep it long enough to get your MWO (Most Wanted Outcome)
That might be:
Getting a prospect to download your 'Lead Generating Report'
Getting them to pick pp the Phone and call you
Getting them to take out their credit card and order your products
And how do you do that?
If you really want to know - email me chris.bloor @ yahoo.com (Remove the spaces) and tell me about your business.
14 reasons to outsource © Chris Bloor
When work is subcontracted to an outside party it is called outsourcing. The word "outsourcing" became part of the business lexicon in the 1980's.
Did you realize that you can hire expert help from around the world - all from the comfort of your Sioux Falls office?
Today you can outsource nearly every kind of work.
Both small businesses and large corporations are taking advantage of outsourcing. Virtual assistants can do any work for you from anywhere in the world, including personal and household tasks, as long as the task doesn't require their physical presence.
Here are 14 reasons to consider outsourcing:
Outsourcing does have some disadvantages. Outsourcing is sometimes referred to as "offshoring" and attracts negative publicity at times, especially in India, where it is widely perceived that sweatshops are prevalent. In these sweatshops the workers are often paid very low wages and work in harsh conditions for very long hours. Typical items that are offshored are clothing items and electronics.
Call centers in foreign countries such as India have become more common but customers frequently complain because the foreign accents are sometimes difficult to understand.
This is especially irksome when trying to get technical support for a complex computer issue. These difficulties are now being mitigated by the use of live chat features (instant messaging) so that the customer does not have to understand an accent.
Even if the customer support person doesn't understand much English, they can copy and paste pre-written responses to the more common questions.
Another downside is the perception that American workers are losing jobs to overseas subcontractors and factories because the overseas workers are cheaper. Political candidates often seize on this as an issue, especially during presidential election years. In 2004 John Kerry described such businesses as "Benedict Arnold Corporations," especially if they incorporated their businesses overseas to avoid taxes.
Polls have shown that 71% of Americans believe that overseas jobs hurt the American economy and they believe the government should impose restrictions. It has been argued that lowering corporate taxes would eliminate the loss of jobs to overseas companies.
Having fewer employees can lead to decreased productivity. More employees can mean more synergy and brainstorming, providing the spark for improvement and new product ideas.
There can also be security risks involved with outsourcing. You don't have as much control as you do with an employee, even if you use a contract. Fraud can also happen, such as in the famous 2005 case when four customer service people stole $350,000 from Citibank customers.
Any publicly traded company will have to listen carefully to the shareholders if they have qualms about outsourcing for these reasons. Exploiting overseas workers is a very touchy subject with many customers as well so you will have to weigh the cost benefit of using overseas workers with the potential negative publicity.
Overall, outsourcing has been beneficial to companies of all sizes.
You don't even have to have a business in order to benefit from outsourcing.
A virtual assistant can assist you even if you are just an employee.
Are you behind on a project at work and need help with some last minute number crunching or spreadsheets?
A virtual assistant can help. And also help organize your personal life too. It can often be cost-efficient to delegate more menial tasks to a virtual assistant so that you can focus on more important work.
From Craigslist to Elance to Rentacoder to large overseas companies, the right subcontractor is never far away or difficult to find.
Using Blogging to Grow Your Business © Chris Bloor
A blog gives a personal face to your business. It is also a good way to serve both your current customers and potential customers that are still sitting on the fence, wondering if they should buy.
A website is static. Even if it has wonderful information and great graphics it is still static and remains the same day in and day. A blog is frequently updated and that newness is appealing to customers interested in your product. If there is a blog link on your home page many visitors will click on it. It gives them a behind-the-scenes glimpse of your company.
The average buyer has to be exposed to a product at least seven times before making a purchase.
A blog gives prospects the opportunity to return to your website again and again and determine whether or not he wants to purchase from your company. It's a good way to establish trust and credibility.
Search engines love blog posts. Blog posts are indexed quickly and keep your website fresh, which boosts its ranking in the search engine. If someone is typing in a search phrase for your product; you want your website to be among the top in the search results. A blog can help accomplish this.
Therefore, it's good to occasionally target certain keyword phrases when writing blog posts. You don't want to do this all the time; ultimately you are writing for people, not search engines. But it's good to have a list of the common keyword phrases that people use to try and find your product.
To find these phrases go to a site like www.wordtracker.com and type in phrases that are relevant to your business. You'll find out how many people are searching those phrases each day and you can incorporate that phrase into a blog post title.
If you have employees, a blog can even be a way to stay in touch with employees. In a large company, most employees don't have the opportunity to communicate regularly with the President, for instance.
Regular blog posts by leaders in the company can help the employees feel they are more involved with the company and motivate them to be more productive, which in turn grows your business. Perhaps your company could have more than one blog or have a blog where several employees can be invited to contribute to it.
If you decide to have a blog be sure to activate a RSS feed for it. A RSS feed makes it easier for people to read your blog regularly without having to manually visit your site. More and more people are using feed readers such as Google Reader to read their favorite blogs so a RSS feed is essential. Plus it's free and easy to set up so there's no excuse not to have one.
You should also invite readers to leave comments so that your blog is interactive. This gives you another way to find out what your customers and prospects are thinking. Two way ideas like this will also give you ideas for future blog posts or other ideas you might use to grow your business. Who knows, maybe even a new product idea.
Make More Sales With Simple Lead Generating Reports Part © Chris Bloor
One of the best ways you will ever find to get more clients is to create a Lead Generating Report.
The basic idea is to create a 5-12 page report that addresses some of the specific problems that your product or service solves or to explain how to choose the product or service that you want to sell.
Examples:
- - A Carpet Company could offer a report called "7 Mistakes Homeowners Make When Choosing New Carpet and How to Avoid Them"
- - A Web Designer could offer a report called "12 Deadly Mistakes Business Owners Make When Getting a Website and How to Avoid Them (Or Fix Them If You've Made Them Already…)"
- - A Kitchen Designer could offer a report called "7 Things Every Homeowner Should Know BEFORE Choosing a New Kitchen"
- - A Business Coach could offer a report called "7 Essential Things Every Business Owner Should Know To Hire a Business Coach That Make Them Money"
Five Great Things Offering a Lead Generating Report Does For Your Business
1. It 'Positions' you and your company as the experts in your industry. After all if your competition are so smart - how come they don't have a report?
2. It allows you to tell your entire sales story in an educating, non-threatening environment. It has been said that in times past the way to make money was to sell! sell! sell! These days it is educate! educate! educate!
3. It helps you build a database of targeted prospects to follow up on. After all, who is going to bother requesting a report on choosing new carpet other than someone who is interested in getting some new carpet?
4. It gives you the opportunity to make a special offer directly related to your report. NOTE: You need to make 100% certain it is a genuine, 'valid' special offer. One that is ONLY related to your report. This can be a very powerful tool in your marketing program!
5. It will save you money as it makes you money. Lets take the example of almost any advert in your local newspaper. How many of them actually give their readers a compelling reason to contact them? Take a look. I am certain you will find that very few that do much more than make bland 'branding' statements.
This is one of the very best things about offering your prospects a Lead Generating Report - virtually no one else in your industry will follow suit. So you will have a great opportunity to really stand out from the crowd!
In Part Two we will look at the specifics involved in creating your Lead Generating Report.

A couple years back my wife and I were shopping for a new car. We wanted something that was good on gas, yet at the same time not a car I would have to cram into because it was too tiny. Being six foot three inches tall and about two hundred forty pounds, you can see, I will not fit into a two door spec, let alone get the rest of my family in there.
After attending the car show at the convention center in Philadelphia, PA, we narrowed it down to a Buick LeSabre or Chevy Impala. The following week we started with the local Chevy dealer to look at the impala. It was a nice car, rode well, price was decent, although could have been better.
We then visited the local Buick dealership to test drive the LeSabre. Again a nice car, rode very well, and priced right. We chose one car over the other, not because of features, options and pricing (although that played a major part in it), but because of the sales person.
At one dealership, the person helping us was very pushy, trying to sell me items I just didn't want or need, a car in the color I didn't request, and the list goes on and on. At the other dealership, the sales person was very friendly, asked if they could help as opposed to asking me "can I sell you this car". We did our test runs in the vehicles that I liked, there was no heavy pressure to buy like the other dealership, and when it was all said and done, I chose the LeSabre.
Now I am sure you have gone through a similar process, or even put potential clients through this. There is a difference between being a really good sales person and an overbearing one. With help from S.C.O.R.E., I have listed five good tips for enhancing your sales.
Education
You need to educate your customers on what it is you are selling. There is a difference between educating them and over selling them on what you are offering. According to S.C.O.R.E., "Entrepreneurs whose businesses are ahead of the curve need to help customers understand the value of their products or services."
Prospecting
This is basic sales knowledge 101. You need to continually work towards developing new sales leads. Not all come walking through your door or cold call you. You need to set time away each day for a little prospecting. Define who your customers most likely are and work towards bringing them in.
Make a Great Offer
We all remember the line from the file "The Godfather", and that is, "I will make him an offer he can't refuse". In the classic Brando voice, you can just hear it ring true. You need to follow that advice. What ever it is you are selling, if you have a database filled with customers already, and you see some have not been by in a while, you need to make them an offer to bring them back in. Say you paint houses for a living. Offer a customer or a friend of that customer a huge discount, such as "winter sale 40% off 3 entire rooms painted if you sign up today", or something along those lines. Then get that offer into the hands of your customer. If you have a new customer and they are teetering back and forth as to whether or not they will use your service or buy your product, make them an offer as well. You need to make them an offer they will find hard to pass up.
Persistence
Be persistent in your sales approach. You do not ever want to give up. Keep in mind as long as it is friendly and not overbearing, being persistent will pay off.
Show Your Worth
Not only are you selling your product or service, but also yourself. You need to show the customer that you are worth working with and buying from. Can they trust you? Do you have integrity? Are you not trying to pull a fast one on them to make a sale? You need to sell yourself the customer so they feel comfortable working with you. Show them that working with you will help them in regards to whatever product or service you provide.
So there you have it. Five tips on sales to help your business, sales team and most importantly yourself, get ahead.
